Excalibur Hotel and Casino

Excalibur Hotel and Casino

Excalibur Hotel and Casino is a hotel and casino on the Las Vegas strip in Las Vegas, United States. The hotel is massive, with 4000 rooms and a 100 000 square foot casino floor with over 1200 slot machines. Named for the mythical sword of King Arthur, Excalibur, the hotel and casino has a Camelot inspired theme.

Camelot was the home castle of the legendary King Arthur. The front of the hotel is done to look like a fairy tale castle, and wouldn’t be out of place in Disney Land. Until 2007 a large Wizard sat atop a high turret on the facade, but has since been replaced by a figure advertising Dick’s Last Resort. Excalibur Hotel and Casino is situated at the Tropicana, Las Vegas Boulevard intersection right in the idle of the strip. It is linked to nearby hotels via sky bridges.

In 1990 when the hotel opened, it was the largest in the world with over 4000 rooms and covering 70 acres. As of 2016 it is the seventh largest hotel in Las Vegas, and the tenth largest in the world going by number of rooms. Excalibur Hotel and Casino has gone through a number of renovations over the years, and many of the themed paintings, murals and statues have been removed as part of a modernizing project.

The Casino at Excalibur Hotel and Casino

The casino floor at Excalibur Hotel and Casino is huge. With over 100 000 square feet and 1200 slot machines it rates amongst the biggest in Las Vegas. All manner of casino games are on offer twenty four hours a day, seven days a week. Slots vary from three reel classic machines to 3D fully animated high definition video slots. Video Poker Machines are of course also well represented. All the table games under the sun can be played live, including Blackjack, Pai Gow and Baccarat. There is a separate area for high rollers who wish to remain private. Complimentary food and drink is available in this area.

Entertainment and Dining

Aside from the enormous casino, Excalibur Hotel and Casino has a number of other entertainment options for both hotel guests and visitors. The recently renovated pool area welcomes whole families, and is fully serviced. There is a 13 000 square foot spa that offers all sorts of treatments on a world class level. Included in the spa area is a twenty four hour fitness centre for hotel guests.

Slightly uniquely among hotels, although not that unique in Las Vegas is the Chapel at Excalibur, where couples can get married. This is obviously themed as well. Las Vegas now allows not only heterosexual marriages but same sex marriages too. Excalibur Hotel and Casino is home to a number of permanent shows, including a Bee Gees Tribute show and medieval dining experience show. The medieval dining show is held in King Arthurs Arena and includes 12 breeds of horses and 32 cast members. The show includes a banquet that is served without utensils, and food throwing is encouraged. Dicks Last Resort is an onsite restaurant that is known for its unusual dining experience in which servers intentionally act rudely toward guests. The mascot Taco puts on a water show behind the bar every night.

Excalibur Hotel and Casino also has a massive food court which is open all day and all night, and has a number of brand name fast food restaurants. Interestingly it hosts one of the few McDonalds in the world to serve Pepsi instead of Coke.
